Our Story

Built by someone who needed clarity
Surplus wasn't born in a boardroom. It was built from debt, discipline, and the need for one clear view of cash flow, spending, debt, investments, real estate, crypto, and net worth.
The debt that changed everything
In my early twenties, I racked up significant credit card debt. Not from some dramatic event — just from not paying attention. Swiping without tracking. Spending without a system. Being financially irresponsible in the way that feels invisible until it's not.
That experience taught me something I carry to this day: if you don't watch your money, it disappears. Not slowly — quickly. And the worst part is you don't even notice until the statement hits.
Clarity changed everything
Getting out of that hole, I realized something that applies to almost everything in life: consistency wins. Habits win. The things you take time to look at every day — your health, your relationships, your finances — those are the things that grow.
Once I had real visibility, everything changed. I wasn't budgeting harder. I just knew what was safe to spend, what was left to keep, and what was coming next. I needed a tool that made that level of clarity effortless.
Nothing gave me the full picture
I tried every budgeting app I could find. Bounced around for years. Some were too simple — just spending trackers with no real forward visibility. Others were too rigid — forcing me into a system that didn't match how I actually live and spend.
I'm a tech snob, honestly. I like things that are both simple and powerful. Beautiful on the surface, deep underneath. None of the existing apps nailed that balance. They either oversimplified personal finance or made it feel like a second job.
So I built one clear view
Surplus started as an app I designed for my own life. As a consultant and solopreneur, I don't have 20 minutes a day to categorize transactions and reconcile accounts. I have less than a minute. I needed one app that made bills, paychecks, subscriptions, and cash flow visible without all the manual overhead.
That clarity shows up in your surplus — what you're actually keeping after everything. Not just income minus expenses on paper. The real picture: banking, debt, investments, crypto, real estate, recurring bills, paychecks, and cash flow all in one place.
I built Surplus to be as simple or as deep as you want it to be. If you just want to know what's safe to spend, it's right there. If you want to drill into every transaction, category, account, and trend, that's there too. One financial hub, on your terms.
30 seconds or less
That's all it takes to see what's safe to spend, what is coming next, and how your full financial picture fits together.
What I hope this becomes
Surplus is still just me — one person who cares deeply about building something great. I'm not backed by venture capital. I'm not trying to sell your data. I built this app because I needed it, and I think a lot of other people do too.
My hope is that Surplus helps people feel financially free because they finally have clarity. That it helps people make spending strategic, turn debt into wealth, and replace stress with momentum. That couples use it to plan their futures together. That it becomes the one app people actually open every day because it tells them what is safe, what is coming, and what is growing.
You're not financially free until you have clarity.
